***MY TWO CENTS WORTH**

Okay already... would spring just get here! I know I am not alone in this feeling. I am so anxious to get out there riding. The temperature is not the thing stopping me it's the footing. The yard is very sheltered so it is still snow covered. Since that is the conditions at home I have decided to keep Mercydes at the training facility for the next month. She's under the care and training of Elaine Banfield at Meadowview Ranch up by Anola. During the month of April I will make weekly trips up to ride her with Elaine. I was there on Wednesday of this week to take a lesson on her. I am happy with her progress and can't wait to take her home. With the melting and freezing happening overnight keep a close watch on your horse's turnout. Keep them off of icy areas where they can slip and fall .On traffic areas where there is ice build up throw down some sand or gravel to keep that area safe.
Spring is a time to be thinking of some equine health issues. It's commonly a time to vaccinate and deworm. Watch for secret deals on dewormer soon to be released, just working on suppliers for some great pricing. Deworming does not have to be a big deal. Horses pick up on your energy, so don't you be worried about how it is going to go wrong. Just throw it in there like it is an everyday occurrence. Say you are in the middle of grooming, just put down the brush, slip the dewormer up the side of the horses mouth. Just like that it's done! Don't make it a big production. On to another spring job-sheath cleaning. If you are the lucky owner of a gelding you have that lovely job to tackle. He's got a winters worth of crap built up in there. Here is a website that will give some good instruction on sheath cleaning http://www.equusite.com/articles/health/healthSheathCleaning.shtml . That winter coat can be very deceiving; once your horse sheds out you'll have a better idea of how they wintered. If your horse's body condition is not what you think it should be consider having a dental checkup done. I like to have my horses teeth done every two years. If you do end up having the vet out for some dental work that is a great time to do sheath cleaning while they are dopey from their anesthetic. If you are not comfortable inspecting him for what is commonly called a bean have the vet have a feel for it. It's junk that forms a hard ball that can cause a blockage.

**SECRET DEALS** Often I get sweet offers from my equestrian suppliers that require a quick turnaround. I never know what is going to come my way. Sometimes there are monthly or weekly specials that suppliers offer or other times they are clearing out inventory. Some months there are one or two deals; some months up to 5 or 6. I pass on these hot deals to my "Secret Deals" subscribers. If you'd like to receive my "Secret Deals" you will need to subscribe. Simply click here Secret Deals.
