EDITORIAL CONTENT (MY TWO CENTS WORTH)

Incredible riding weather this past month!  I hope yaw'll got out there enjoyed the great weather with your favorite horse buddy. I probably rode more in November than any month of 2009. I've had my Arab mare, Mercydes, at Abe Friesen's at St. Claude for the past six weeks so I could use his indoor arena. The arena was handy for evenings with the daylight being so short now. Her training really progressed this past month. She's really learned to stretch and reach. Her canter is coming along nicely as she builds confidence. I'm having a blast riding her, she is so willing.  Had to slow down in the middle of the month as she tore open her neck on something in the paddock. At least there are no flies this time of year to bug the wound. It has healed nicely, don't think there will be a scar. She was a good patient. She continues to impress me with her lovely demeanor. We did manage to get in a couple rides off the yard and she was not nervous or spooky. The indoor arena was nice for working on her canter so that footing wasn't an issue and walls come in handy with a green horse. 

Just a gentle reminder to check your health records for when your horse was last dewormed. Fall is a must time time to deworm. You want to make sure your horse is not stressed healthwise going into the winter. Horses have lots to deal with in Manitoba in the winter. WINE & CHEESE FUNDRAISER FOR CANADIAN DRESSAGE RIDER:  FEI 2010 World Equestrian Games. Bonny Bonnello has been coaching and training Manitoba dressage riders and horses for 25 years. Bonny, along with her fantastic horse Pikardi, has been asked by Equine Canada's Dressage coach, Robert Dover, to campaign to qualify for the 2010 World Equestrian Games to be held in Lexington, Kentucky next September. HORSE3 - HEAD*HEART*HOOVES: The Keystone Centre is excited to once again be hosting this 3rd annual Equine Educational Weekend on April 16-18, 2010 at the Westoba Ag Centre of Excellence. The H3 event promises to be another exciting weekend full of equine entertainment and education events. Our goal with this event is to provide the horse enthusiast the opportunity to learn more about communicating with their horse.  We have chosen to highlight the disciplines of Lee Smith(horsemanship), Lyle Jackson and Guy Robertson (reining), Elaine Banfield (dressage), Bruce Logan  (cow horse), and Jim and Elaine Hyde (barrel racing).  We will have lectures through out the weekend regarding nutrition, equine behaviors, hoof care, dental, saddle fitting and much more. The highest attended portion the past few years was the Trainer’s Challenge. This event is where three clinicians Nathan Day from Australia, Cain Quam from Saskatchewan and a name to be announce soon take a young horse out of a supplied select herd and individually call upon the depths of their knowledge, abilities and skill to see how much of an understanding they can develop between horse and human. From this foundation, you will see how much is possible to accomplish with four 1-hour sessions in the round pen. Sunday join us for the excitement in the main show ring where one trainer will be crowned the 2010 H3 Trainer Champion. Saturday night be sure to stick around for Mike Blair’s www.rafterb.wordpress.com  performance in the Silver Spur Saloon!
